OBD-0 ECU Plug De-Pinning
This is a quick tutorial on how to depin ECU plugs on OBD0-equipped Hondas. Depinning ECU plugs is necessary on many swaps, including MPFI conversions.
Depinning the "A" plug is easy. Simply pry the plastic tab away from the metal pin to release it. A precision screw driver or other small tool should do the job.
For depinning these connectors, I find that poultry lacers work extremely well. They are thin enough to enter the cavities in the connectors, yet strong enough to withstand the force required for the job. Shown below is a poultry lacer next to an ECU plug to give you an idea what you're working with.
Before removing pins from the connector, you will need to remove the white plastic locking tab from behind (see picture below). This step may not be required on some pre-'88 cars.
To release the connector pins, insert the poultry lacer or other suitable tool into the connector as shown below (connector has been cross-sectioned for clarity). Once inserted, give the tool a firm push into the connector to release the pin's locking tab. You should then be able to pull the wire out from behind. I highly suggest practicing on junk connectors first to perfect your technique.
