This was my '87 Civic sedan. It was a rust and accident-free original California car, which I bought back in August of 2011 after seeing it for sale out in front of my local Auto Zone. I had just sold my beloved DOHC-swapped '86 Civic Si, so this car popped up at the perfect time. This particular car had already caught my eye about a year before I bought it. I'd seen it rolling around the San Fernando Valley, and I noticed it because it was so clean, but especially because it was equipped with the rare OEM optional Bosch fog lights and 13" mesh alloys.
I ended up paying $1,060 for the car. It was probably the most I've ever paid for an old Honda (especially one with 337k miles), but to me it was worth it considering the condition of the car. As a bonus on top of the fogs and wheels, it also came with a super-rare "Honda Audio Console", padded center armrest/storage compartment, and full set of original Honda floor-mats. Whoever bought the car new really went all out with the accessories!
Sometime around 2014, I got serious with the car. My friend Rene gave me a hand-me-down DOHC ZC swap after I B16B-swapped his '86 Civic Si. It took me a couple of months to prep the chassis for the EFI system, which included basically gutting the interior to install the engine wiring and fuel system hard lines.
I tore into the chassis wiring harness and pulled out all the old carbureted emissions system wiring, then grafted in the EFI portion of an '88-'89 Integra chassis harness to support the new blacktop Integra ZC engine. Since the car was an automatic, I also had to convert the chassis to accept the new Integra 5-speed manual transmission. It was a ton of work, but at the end it looked great and could fool you into thinking you were looking at an Integra under the hood.
Eventually I got the car inspected at a California referee station and got the ZC swap BAR'd. I also entered it at the 2014 Japanese Classic Car Show and won "2nd Place Best Honda Civic".
Life got in the way and I sold the car around 2015. While I wish I'd never sold it, at least I got to build and enjoy a car that I'd wanted to put together since I was a teenager.
